What to Do when you wanna Quit?

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29

Ever feel like EVERYTHING is going the wrong way?  Doesn’t matter what you do nothing seems to turn out right?  What should you do when life is handing you lemons? Quit!  Yes I know there are probably a ton of blogs that will encourage you to soldier on, keep up the good fight, etc…this is not one of them.  I would like to propose a total shift in the usual response and say “Quit.”  Yes, I know what you are thinking, that is the worse advice possible, but hear me out.  I propose you stop trying so hard to make things happen, to believe in the elusive control that you don’t really have anyway, and give up, at least for a bit.  Sometimes we are pushing so hard in one direction, and the universe/God is trying to tell us we are going the wrong way, or we are going the right way but not in the right manner.  SO stop, take a deep breath and quit what you are doing for a minute.  Go back to meditation and prayer and seek wisdom.  Is the energy you are receiving back from the universe trying to tell you something?  Take time for intervention, reflection, seek guidance and counsel.  Then when you have a fresh mind-set and maybe a new path try again.  We sometimes try so hard when we really need to relax and let the good things come to us.  We sometimes get the bit in our teeth about how something “should” happen when it’s not meant to happen at all or happen in the way “we” think.  It is in our arrogance we falter, the idea that we know best, and the falsehood of thinking that we are in control that we find ourselves down a slippery slope of negativity, self-doubt and even depression.  There is one phrase I meditate on in these moments, “Everything is just as it should be”  we have no way of knowing God’s plan exactly or God’s timing, so it’s best, in my opinion to believe it is as it should be.  If you find yourself wandering in the weeds, STOP and take time to reflect, quit working so hard, going against the grain and let go and let God.  It’s okay to rest, it’s ok to quit, it’s ok to listen and figure out what you are being told by the world and spirit around you.  The scripture tells us in Matthew “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”  God wants us to rest, to find him/her and be at peace to have Joy – if you aren’t experiencing that maybe it’s time to take a new path.
