Charlie…the Rescue Dog

Me and Charlie

Me & Charlie

This is my Charlie, I rescued her, or rather she was given to me.  My youngest says God sent her to us as a gift.  Let me explain,  you see we live out  in the country and out in the country you never know what will show up in your yard!  SO, one day I am outside when I spy a white dog out by my chicken run!  GET!  Oh my goodness, that dog better not get into my chickens, it looked like it was large dog and about to try to dig under the chicken run.  As I got closer, I saw this smallish, wired-haired, mangy dog, with the sweetest eyes.  I started to call her over, she had on a collar so I thought I would find the owner, but she had no tag.  My family owns about 70 acres around me, and I know everyone’s pets, of course, so I thought it strange I had never seen this little dog in our area.  I took her picture, and started the text message around the neighborhood “Anyone know who’s dog this is?…”  No-one knew..and so I gave her some water, BUT no food! I know what giving a stray dog food means, you feed them they stay!  She never left my porch from that moment on…and you know I gave in shortly and fed her later that night. Her eyes were so sweet, she looked so happy, and of course she was soon a permanent fixture in our menagerie.

Charlie & Xena, aka her best buddy

So now you know how she got here, but here is what Charlie has taught me; see one of the first things I noticed was she would try to jump in the car as soon as I was trying to leave, she was scared to death for me to go.  Someone who had a rescue dog said that was because she was afraid I would abandon her, like her previous owners (yes I believe someone just got tired of her and left her).  Also, when I would arrive back home she would come running off the porch, full speed to the door of my car, and jump in my lap!  I have had lots and lots of dogs throughout my life, mostly pure-breed, and I have been loved by them and loved them in return, but not like this dog!  She will lay with me wherever I am, content to just be by my side for as long as I will let her stay.  Her eyes tell a story of gratitude beyond what I have seen before, and that got me to thinking….

First Night @The Tin Can Cottage

First night Charlie came to the house….Now how do you turn this face away?

Aren’t we all “Charlies?”  Aren’t we all discarded by those who don’t think us worth the time, or effort.  Aren’t we all a little, or allot broken, mangy, disheveled and looking for home?  My mother says Charlie is so ugly she’s cute! LOL  She has this weird wiry hair and her back hair is curly but not the front and skinny little legs! I guess whoever had her didn’t think her worthy of their love or home.  That’s how we feel many times, people of the world make us feel less-than, we get rejected, discarded, and hurt, and sometimes we just make bad decisions and end up hurting ourselves.  We make mistakes and feel un-lovable, stupid, or undesirable by this world.  Nevertheless, GOD loves us, GOD cares for us, He sees our mangy tore up lives and says, “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matt. 11:28-29  Just like in the story of the prodigal son we learn there is nothing, no nothing, you can do to separate you from the LOVE of GOD.  God loves us my brothers and sisters, and I promise and if you will sit with Him, He will never leave or forsake you, he will be with you always even until the end of time.  He loves you and me just like I love my little Charlie.  He knows your story, He knows how it feels to be abandoned, discarded, left by your family and friends and He still sees your value. Run to the one who knows every hair on your head the one that created you and loves you, no matter what. He never leaves you by the side of the road, he never discards the one made in His image, He waits patiently for us to come to His open arms.  Our faith to often is in the attachments to our world and the frail and failing people around us. Instead I say look up, look up to the one that never fails.  Including our own-selves, we so many times ask for forgiveness, and He has given it, but we don’t let go, and give accept that forgiveness, we walk around with these scarlet A’s on our chest, beating up ourselves for far too long.  Let it go.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

We are all just rescue dogs and God says come on get in the car!  You can ride with me.

Ride Along….

Never forget the one you can always turn to the one that loves you, even when it feels you are alone and no one else does.

broken heart

Love you,
